Any Langres resident may purchase a Langres Museum Ambassador Card for a fee of €7. Card holders get three free entries a year, and can bring up to six guests a year at a concessionary rate. This card is valid for one year.

Invitation à l’illustratrice Marion Sonet
Les musées de Langres vous proposent de découvrir le travail de l’illustratrice Marion Sonet. En 2023, elle avait collaboré avec la Maison des Lumières pour la création de l’album de fiction Le mystère Bartholdi. Aujourd’hui, nous vous proposons de découvrir les planches originales de cet ouvrage.
Installée à Besançon, Marion Sonet a réalisé de nombreux albums jeunesse comme La nuit au manoir ou Zhu et la perle d’eau. Diplômée de l’école Saint-Luc de Bruxelles, ses dessins se caractérisent par la beauté de son travail au crayon, par une grande poésie et par une éblouissante maîtrise de la couleur.

Partenaires publics et mécènes privés du nouveau musée
L’histoire des musées de Langres a franchi une nouvelle étape en 2013 avec l’ouverture de la Maison des Lumières Denis Diderot. Ce musée de France a été inscrit dans le plan « Musées en région » du Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication. Il a bénéficié du soutien financier de l’État, de l’Europe (FEDER), de la Région Champagne-Ardenne, du Département de la Haute-Marne et du Groupement d’Intérêt Public de la Haute-Marne. Des mécènes privés ont également contribué à la réussite de ce projet, notamment la société Plastic Omnium, qui a financé la restauration d’un important plafond peint du XVIIe siècle, la société EDF, qui a participé au financement de la conception énergétique du bâtiment, et la société Cofely GDF Suez, qui a participé au financement de la restauration d’œuvres.
Maîtrise d’œuvre des musées de Langres
Dans les années 1990, le projet architectural et muséographique du Musée d’Art et d’Histoire a été confié à Jean-Michel Musso, Architecte en chef des Monuments Historiques, et à sa collaboratrice Laetitia Morand. Commencés en 1990, les travaux s’achevèrent en 1995 et en 1997. Entre 2009 et 2013, la restauration des extérieurs classés au titre des Monuments Historiques de la Maison des Lumières a été confiée à Pierre Bortolussi, Architecte en chef des Monuments Historiques. Hors parties protégées au titre des Monuments Historiques, le projet architectural et muséographique a été confié au cabinet Basalt Architecture, associé à l’atelier A-kiko pour la muséographie et à l’agence Louis Benech Paysagiste pour la conception du jardin.
Amis des Musées de Langres
Depuis 1982, l’Association des Amis des Musées de Langres concourt à l’animation des musées et à l’enrichissement de ses fonds, par des conférences, des visites d’expositions, des acquisitions multiples… Rejoignez-nous !
Fondée en 1836, reconnue d’utilité publique en 1859, c’est une des sociétés culturelles les plus anciennes de Champagne Ardenne. Elle a créé en 1838 le musée de Langres qu’elle a enrichi régulièrement, musée transféré à la municipalité en 1974. Elle reste cependant propriétaire de ses collections.
Malgré son âge c’est une société bien vivante, forte de 420 membres. Elle publie un bulletin trimestriel, organise des visites, propose des conférences et reste très impliquée dans les activités des musées de Langres. Elle possède une riche bibliothèque ouverte au public le jeudi et le samedi après midi.

Guided Tours
General guided tours are offered to school groups to discover the entire exhibition circuit of the Maison des Lumières. Thematic guided tours are also available:
Science in the 18th Century:
Discover science during the Enlightenment, exploring measuring instruments, unusual objects such as celestial mechanics, and illustrations from the Encyclopédie.
Diderot and the Arts:
Through paintings, sculptures, excerpts from plays, and critiques of the Salons, this tour provides an insight into the role of the arts in Diderot’s work. The Encyclopedia, an 18th-Century Bestseller:
An in-depth tour to discover one of the major works in the history of Western thought.
In Diderot’s Footsteps in Langres:
Developed with the Heritage Outreach Department, this workshop offers a tour of Diderot’s living quarters in the historic center of Langres and a discovery of the Maison des Lumières.

Engraving Workshop:
Each student creates a template on a laminated surface and then tries their hand at printing different proofs on a suitable press.
Image Reading Workshop:
How do illustrations contribute to the understanding of a work and reveal themselves as a distillation of the literary work itself?
Still Life:
Using still life paintings, students explore questions of composition, light, and color palette, and create their own still life.
Budding Herbalist Workshop:
This workshop allows students to explore botany and the history of natural sciences through their senses (touch, smell, sight, etc.) and creativity by creating their own herbarium.
Travel Journal Workshop:
Students explore the great explorers of the 18th century. This discovery leads them to create their own travel journal.
Teaching Materials
The Visitor Services Department provides teachers and students with numerous educational resources on various themes covered in the exhibition: The Adventure of Writing in the 18th Century; The Encyclopedia, a Bestseller in the Age of Enlightenment; Women of the Enlightenment, etc. These documents were developed in collaboration with a teacher-referee.
The two Langres museums regularly participate in training sessions for teachers from the local education authority (as part of Academic Training Plans) or the training area.
MUSEUM OF ART AND HISTORY
The Visitor Services Department offers guided tours of the entire exhibition for children (in and out of school). Developed with the assistance of a teacher, the activities are designed according to school curricula.
Themed Tours
The Birth of a Painting:
Students discover the materials and techniques used by painters from prehistory to the classical period, from canvas to varnish, including brushes and pigments. Literary Archaeology and Gallo-Roman Civilization:
Literary and archaeological description of the features of this civilization: the world of the living with the villa of Andilly-en-Bassigny, the realm of the dead with the mausoleum of Faverolles, daily life, etc.
Art and Faith in the Middle Ages:
Visit the crypt of Saint-Geosmes, Langres Cathedral, the medieval statues in the museum, and the Saint-Didier Chapel.

Discover the painter in his apprenticeship and in his private and public works.
In the Footsteps of the Renaissance in Langres:
In collaboration with the Heritage Animation Department, another workshop in the same vein is being prepared on the monuments and works of the Langres Renaissance.
4 Museum Events Over 4 Years:
Linked to art history teaching, this activity, taking place at the Maison des Lumières and the Guy Baillet Museum of Art and History, explores the theme of human representation.

Illumination Workshop:
This workshop allows students to discover beautiful book illuminations dating from the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance, and then to create their own initial letter during a creative session.
Mosaic Workshop:
During this workshop, we introduce students to one of the major pieces in the museum’s collection: a Gallo-Roman mosaic found beneath the current Museum of Art and History. Students then create their own mosaic.
Papyrus Workshop:
The workshop begins with a time to explore the museum’s Egyptian collections (including a mummy), and then students experiment with writing in hieroglyphs on papyrus.
Prehistoric Paintings Workshop:
This workshop begins with prehistoric objects preserved at the Museum of Art and History and then introduces the different materials and techniques used for cave paintings.
Educational Materials
The Visitor Services Department provides teachers and students with educational resources on various themes covered in the exhibition, such as the Apocalypse by Jean Duvet or the Bacchus Mosaic. These materials were developed in collaboration with a teaching assistant.

WORKSHOPS
Throughout the year during school holidays, the Langres Museums Department offers workshops for children and teenagers.
Travel Journal Workshop
This interactive and fun workshop begins with a time to explore travel-related works: engravings, travelogues, maps, and scientific objects such as sextants and globes.
Each young participant then creates their own travel journal through writing, drawing, and collage.
Budding Herbalists Workshop
During sunny days, this workshop offers children the opportunity to create a herbarium. Herbalism is a practice that developed considerably in the 18th century, alongside the rise of natural sciences. Conferences
Every first Thursday of the month, the Maison des Lumières offers a conference on the theme of Diderot and the 18th century. Ten conferences are organized throughout the year. Every third Thursday of the month, the Museum of Art and History offers a lecture related to its collections. Ten lectures are organized throughout the year.

Langres has two museums in France: the Maison des Lumières Denis Diderot, the only museum space in France dedicated to the philosopher and encyclopedist, and the Museum of Art and History whose archaeological and artistic collections extend from Prehistory to the 20th century.
